The debate over methane water continues as citizens of Wyoming living in the Powder River Basin claim the state government is unwilling to shield them against pollution from coal-bed methane water. The Powder River Basin runs along the Montana - Wyoming border and is the greatest single supply of coal mined in the U.S and officials estimate that it contains over 800 billion tons of coal. Extensive drilling has occurred since 1996 with over 7000 wells created for coal bed methane extraction.
