Wearing a seat belt seems like commonsense, however, a large number of drivers and passengers on the road still don't buckle up.

New Jersey Gov. Jon S. Corzine aired a public service announcement in which he matter of factly tells viewers that not wearing his seat belt almost cost him his life.

"I'm New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine, and I should be dead," he says at the start of his 30-second PSA. Gov. Corzine was involved in a car crash on April 12 in New Jersey. During the ad Corzine actually tells viewers the extent of his injuries -- 15 bones broken in 18 places, more than half of his blood lost, eight days spent in intensive care. The accident threw Corzine from the passenger seat to the rear of his sport utility vehicle.
The vehicle's driver was wearing his seat belt His trooper driver and was hospitalized for just one day.

There were an estimated 43,300 road deaths nationwide last year. An estimated 55 percent of those killed -- roughly 24,000 people -- were not wearing seat belts.

A grim reminder to buckle up. Car crashes can happen to anyone. If you are injured in a car crash, call the attorneys at Bachus & Schanker. We can help.
